Interim Senior Pastor
Doctor Leroy Gainey served as pastor of First Baptist Church in Vacaville (FBCVV), California, for 26 years prior to his "retirement" in 2016. After leaving FBCVV, Doctor Gainey continued following God's call by serving as Interim Senior Pastor for churches across the California Bay Area when needed. His leadership helped sustain churches as they sought permanent leadership, providing continuity and vision for a bright future.
Doctor Gainey began teaching at Gateway Seminary in 1987 where he served as Senior Professor of Educational Leadership.
He returned to serve as Interim Senior Pastor at FBCVV in December 2020. His guidance and loving leadership helped FBCVV grow in the midst of the COVID pandemic and when circumstances found us void of pastoral leadership.
He is a teacher and mentor, growing new leadership from within our congregation and preparing them to bring the Word of God to people across our community and beyond. He is a dynamic preacher whose real and authentic messages touch hearts and change lives.
He and his wife, Cheryl, form a strong partnership, providing a tremendous example to our many families. They are actively engaged with church activities, spearheading the effort and motivating others to take part.
Together, Doctor Gainey and Cheryl have four children: Shana, Tamura, LaRae, and Leroy, Jr; two sons-in-law: Michael Lomax and Rashim Mayo; daughter-in-love Juanita Alvarez-Gainey; two grandsons: Michael LeRoy Lomax and Martin Joseph Lomax; and one granddaughter Jasmine Thomas-Gainey.
