Leroy Gainey is the Senior Pastor-Teacher of First Baptist Church of Vacaville. He is a Associate Professor of Church Growth and Applied Theology, Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. He was elected to the faculty of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in April 1987 as Associate Professor of Religious Education. He began teaching in the Fall of 1987 and currently is overseeing development of the Seminary's Master of Divinity with a concentration in intercultural studies.
Prior to coming to Golden Gate, Gainey was Senior Minister at Central Baptist Church, Syracuse, N.Y., and a church planter in East Orange, N.J. He now is serving as pastor of First Baptist Church. He was an instructor in psychology of religion at Alpha Omega Theological Institute in Newark, N.J., from 1977-78. In addition, he served as instructor of English and homiletics at IMATI Seminary Extension Center in Syracuse, N.Y.
Pastor Gainey holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Administrative and Adult Education at Syracuse University. Additionally, he earned a Master of Divinity degree from Morehouse School of Religion, a certificate in Pastoral care from the Georgia Regional Hospital in Atlanta, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Clark College. Pastor Gainey and his wife Cheryl have three daughters, Shana, Tamura, and Larae, and one son, Leroy III, and two grandsons, Michael Leroy Lomax and Martin Joseph Lomax .
